QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Will you help us choose a location?
Of course! I’m familiar with all the best spots in & around the Edmonton area and would love to help you choose the right location for you & your family! If you already have a location in mind, even better! For newborn sessions, I recommend your home as it’s familiar surroundings for your baby and all I need is natural light, most often near a large window or patio door. Wherever you decide, I’ll make sure the images are meaningful and help tell your family’s story.
When are you available for sessions?
Sessions are booked on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays with the occasional Friday mornings. Morning/early afternoon is best for indoor newborns sessions and for outdoor shoots, I recommend a couple of hours before sunset for the best light. Sorry, but weekends are not available.
When’s the best time to book a newborn/maternity/family session?
Newborn – ideally booked during your second or third trimester and scheduled within the first 7-21 days of your baby’s arrival
Maternity – ideally booked within your second trimester and scheduled during your third trimester, when the bump is most noticeable
Family – ideally booked every 1-1.5 years to recapture the love, growth, and dynamics between family members
If you’re inquiring outside this timeframe, no worries! I’ll do my best to accommodate you as I don’t overbook my calendar and make room for last-minute changes and additions.
Do you offer discounts for milestone collections?
Yes! If you’d like to commit to more than 3 sessions (maternity, newborn, 1 month, 3 month, 1 year) when you book, a $100 discount will be provided for each following session. For example, your first session will be 750 and any following session will be 650 each as long as they are booked at the same time.
Will my family be able to join in the newborn/maternity session?
Yes, of course! This is an important time in their lives as well and I encourage them to join in on the fun! Pets are welcome too, should you wish (I recommend bringing a friend to help watch your pet when he/she is not needed for certain images).
What about grandparents, aunts, uncles?
I understand each family dynamic is different and not every household is the same. I don’t put a cap on the # of family members a session includes, but I also shoot very differently if it is an extended family reunion shoot. During our prep + planning, we’ll go over who you’d like included in your session and any additional fees that may be required.
Do you shoot with props?
Generally no, as I prefer to focus my creativity on family dynamics and real moments. If certain items are important to you though, we’ll have a chance to discuss this prior to your session along with wardrobe and location ideas. Props can be fun depending on the concept (and may be crucial to keep little ones occupied), so this will depend on what works best for you & your family!
What if it rains, snows, or we otherwise can’t shoot during our scheduled time & date?
My rain policy is: unless it is scheduled to heavily rain/snow or below -10C, we will go ahead as planned and dress appropriately. Forecast changes daily and often so I recommend waiting closer to your session to make the final decision (we’ll make the call the night before/morning of your session so we get access to hourly forecast). The only exception to this is if babies or young children are involved, in which case, we can take it indoors or reschedule.
When will we view & select our images?
Within 3 weeks of your session on a previously agreed upon date, your edited images will be available for previewing and selecting via an online gallery for 1 week. Your session fee includes 10 digital images and you may choose to upgrade it to the full gallery for an additional $550 + gst or include a fine-art album with digitals for $1000. An in-person meeting is also available if you’d like my suggestions on image and product selections.
The gallery will remain open with your purchased images for an additional 90 days for you to share with family & loved ones. After this time, only purchased images will be archived and any images not purchased will be deleted to make room for future sessions.
How do we book you?
To officially reserve your session, I require a signed contract and 50% of the session fee ($375 + gst). This acts as a non-refundable retainer for me to secure your booking as it allows me to turn other inquiries away for the same date. Please note that all rates are subject to GST and you lock in your rates only when you are officially booked.
