I love when couples choose Terwillegar Park for their engagement photos! Because it’s a dog park, you can bring your pet along too! (Tip: invite a friend to come with you, so they can watch your dog during the session!).

Even though lots of people go to Terwillegar, we found a couple quiet spots for more privacy and space. I particularly love the large fields near the trails and the beach area on the river. If you’re not sure where to take pictures in Terwillegar Park, just walk around like we did too – you’ll be surprised at how many hidden spots there are!

For the first part of their session, I had their backs turned to the sun to avoid the harsh light and shadows on their faces and strategically had them pose in certain angles to create soft backlight behind them. This is how I like to shoot the majority of my photos when it’s not quite the “golden hour” most photographers love.

Bright sunlight can work wonderfully for photos if you know how to make the light work FOR you! This also helps when shooting an hour before sunset isn’t feasible whether for scheduling or weather reasons.

To contrast the bright and sunny photos, I wanted to go a bit moodier for the next set and took them to the beach area. I love the exposed dirt wall featured in the photos you’ll see below, with the hint of colour from the changing leaves!

I’m excited to share these with you! Here are a few favourites from Liz and Clayton’s engagement session:
